GoodOldBaz's segment:
Commander Spock wavered and leaned against the wall. He had had a sudden moment of dizziness and it had almost made him fall. He blinked, trying to rid himself of his blurry vision. Suddenly, everything went black, and he fell to the floor.
When Spock opened his eyes again he was not on the starship Enterprise - he looked around him to see that he was standing in a small room, scantily furnished and very dirty. In the corner there stood a woman, apparently human, and a young boy, looking out of an open window. Both seemed completely unaware of his existence.
“Mama,” the young boy was saying. “When will Papa be home again?”
The woman looked bitterly at her son. “He is not coming home, son. I’ve told you that before. He is never coming back!”
Spock suddenly awoke to the sight of faces looking over him.
“Spock – Spock are you alright?” asked Captain Kirk, taking Spock by the hand.
“Yes, Captain,” Spock replied, trying to sit up, but Bones pressed him back down into a lying position.
“What happened to you, Spock?” queried the doctor.
“I fainted.”
“I know that, you idiot, but why did you faint?”
Spock shook his head, unable to reply. He thought back on his dream – vision rather – while he had been unconscious. It was not logical – he could not trace what he had seen to any place in his memory. Spock sat up, this time not complying with Bones’ urge to lie back down.
“Captain, I request permission to go back to my station.”
Kirk looked at Dr. McCoy. “Bones?”
Bones shrugged. “Send him back. If this happens again though I’ll have to make a full examination of him.”
-------------------------
“Oh darn it!” she shouted, her fingers slipping and the needle jagging her patient. “I’m sorry, Sir – I just can’t keep my hands from shaking today.”
“That is quite alright, Nurse McCoy,” said the thin, elderly man, trilling his r’s significantly. “I have had worse wounds than a simple needle prick – as you can see.”
He glanced down at the gash in his arm. Nurse Joanna McCoy smiled and went back to her stitching up.
“So you have been a nurse for long?” asked her patient.
“For a few years now, yes.”
“What made you decide to be a nurse?”
“Well, my dad is a doctor on a starship.”
The elderly man flinched, but only slightly. “Is that so? You know, I believe I know a Dr. Leonard McCoy – on the starship Enterprise.”
Joanna smiled slightly. “Yep, that’s him. I was never around him much as a kid, but still, I wanted to be like him. He’s a good guy.”
“Yes, indeed he is.”
Nurse McCoy finished up the stitches and turned to her desk. “What’s your name again, Sir? I need it for my records.”
“Tarmer.”
“Thanks.”
----------
Spock blinked, trying to rid himself of the vivid vision in front of his eyes – but it would not work. Even as he struggled against it, he felt himself falling further into the scene before him.
A young man and a middle-aged woman stood arguing violently with each other on the porch of an old house on a desert planet.
“No! No, I won’t do it!” cried the boy – he recognized him as the boy he had seen before, only several years older. “You cannot make me stay here on this dirty old planet and run your stupid farm! I’m going to go to Starfleet, and I’m going to become a captain – I’m going to have a starship, and a crew, and I’m going to be great – and everyone will know who I am and everyone will respect me. I’m not going to be a failure like you and dad. I’m going to make something of myself.”
Spock let out a sudden groan at the sight of Dr. McCoy bending over him. The scene, the boy, and his mother, were all gone.
“Spock! Spock wake up!” the doctor was saying.
Spock sat up. “I am completely awake, Doctor.”
“You fainted again.”
“Yes, I realize that.”
Spock moved to get up off of the sickbay bed. Bones reached out a hand to stop him.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“I am going back to the bridge to perform my duties.”
“Not on your life you’re not.”
“Doctor, I –”
“You may not listen to me, Spock, but I’ve got orders from Jim to give you a complete physical before I let you out of here, and I’m prepared to strap you down if necessary! Do you understand me, you green-blooded Vulcan!?”
Spock leaned back. “I understand perfectly.”
---------
Joanna laughed. Tarmer was really quite charming. Even as a somewhat rough southern girl herself, she enjoyed class in others.
“Would you like to see my ship?” he asked, leaning slightly towards Joanna, his thin, pale face looking eagerly at her.
“You still have a ship? I would have thought –” Joanna paused. “Oh, well, I mean –”
“You would have thought I was too old for it?” smiled Tarmer. “That is quite alright. I understand the assumption.”
“I’m really sorry – I would really like to see your ship. I have about an hour more of duty here, but I’d love to see it later.”
“Well that is wonderful,” Tarmer said, slightly under his breath. “Very wonderful.”
----------
Spock lay wide awake in his bed. His physical had showed he was in perfect working order, but even so Dr. McCoy had ordered him to bed. He had been laying there for nearly an hour – his mind reeling to find the answer to his two strange visions. He closed his eyes, and was immediately transported again into a vivid vision. The young man he had seen before stood in front of a class, giving some sort of speech. To Spock, it was obvious that this was Starfleet Academy – he had had classes in the very same room. But his attention was not focused on the young man, but on two Romulan youths who sat in the back of the class.
“What a suck up,” one was whispering to the other. “He knows just how to work the system to get whatever he wants. How much do you want to bet he’ll get his own starship as soon as he graduates? It isn’t fair how some people get favoritism like that.”
The second young Romulan hesitated, and then leaned closer to his companion. “What do you say to a little sabotage?”
Spock was suddenly transported to another moment in time. He found himself standing at the end of a large hall. Spock saw before him, at the end of the hall, the young man he had seen in all of his visions, along with the two young Romulans, and one of Starfleet’s most renowned disciplinarians.
“What do you have to say for yourself, Ensign?” asked the disciplinarian, directing his attention to the young man.
“I have nothing to say – I do not understand why I was called here.”
“Ensign, it is clear – from the evidence of these two and what we have found in the computers – that you have been cheating in every one of your classes ever since you’ve arrived here. Do you still hold that you have nothing to say?”
The young Ensign’s already pale face went shock white. His entire body began to quiver. “W-what?”
“There’s no use denying it!” exclaimed one of the young Romulans. “We saw you on Professor Kellur’s computer! That would explain why you get perfect grades on everything!”
The young man looked at the two Romulans – his face became alight with bitter hatred, but no words came out of his mouth. He stayed cool, calm, and collected. With a simple, excusatory curse, he bowed his head, turned, and walked away.
Without warning the quiet hall disappeared and there was a sudden flash. In that momentary flash Spock saw a young woman crying out for help – pleading with him to ask her father to save her.
Spock awoke with a start and looked at the ceiling. He felt a growing sickness in his stomach. Through his visions he had had the idea that they were all flashbacks to something that had happened in the past – but this last abrupt apparition had left upon him the impression that it was very real, and happening at that exact moment, or perhaps even yet to come.
--------
Joanna McCoy looked around the ship and Tarmer chatted happily. She smiled to herself, remembering the first time she had ever been on a starship and how her father had been so eager to show her everything. When Joanna and Tarmer reached the bridge, the young woman realized something.
“Tarmer!” she exclaimed suddenly. “We are in the air! Why are we in the air?”
“Oh,” said Tarmer, smiling serenely. “I thought we might simply take her for a spin – so you can see how she flies. I can land her if that would make you more comfortable.”
“No, no that’s ok. I’d like to see how she flies.”
Tarmer evaded his face from Joanna’s gaze and smiled – but this smile was different – it was triumphant, cruel, and cold. His plan was done. He no longer needed to be kind to the young nurse he had seduced into coming along with him – he called out for one of his crewmen.
“Lieutenant Landor, take Nurse McCoy to her quarters.”
Joanna turned sharply to Tarmer. His face had changed – no longer was he the gentle old soul she had stitched up in her hospital – now he was proud, strong, and commanding – cold and somewhat frightening – with a distinct aura of something very bad – something, evil.
“W-what do you mean, my ‘quarters?’” she asked, trying to hide the sudden fear in her voice.
“I mean, Nurse McCoy – that you are now completely under my jurisdiction. You shall do everything I say, or you will pay quite dearly. Now follow Lieutenant Landor to your quarters.”
----------
“How are you feeling, Spock?” asked Kirk, smiling at his companion across the 3D chess set.
“I feel in perfect working order, Captain, but I know I am not.
James Kirk looked slightly alarmed. “What do you mean?”
Spock thought it best to tell his captain of the “visions” or “dreams” that he had been having – and so he did. “Jim,” he said slowly, making sure no one else could hear him. “I am not fit to work as long as these visions persist. I ask permission to go back to Vulcan to try to find their origin.”
Kirk considered a moment when he saw the face of his companion glaze over and he slumped down onto the table. Jim jumped up and shouted out, “Somebody get Dr. McCoy! Hurry up!”
A moment later a young Redshirt returned with the doctor.
“What happened?” he asked anxiously.
Kirk was about to explain when Spock suddenly sat up and looked around him. He reached out and grabbed onto Bones’ arm. “Doctor, you have to save her!” he exclaimed, his eyes glazed and his face rigid. With a sudden exclamation, he fell limply back down onto the table.
Spock found himself back at Starfleet. The same young man he had seen in all of his visions was arguing violently with a young Romulan. As he found himself getting closer to them, he realized that it was the same Romulan that had accused the man of cheating.
“They are going to kick me out,” said the young man, his face livid with bitter hate. “And it’s all your fault!”
The young Romulan bit his lower lip. “I’d say it’s your fault, you were the one who cheated.”
“You lied!!” cried the man, grabbing the Romulan by the shoulders.
The Romulan, who was the bigger of the two, pulled himself out of the young man’s grasp. “Suck it up, Tarmer,” said the Romulan bitterly. He spit on the ground and turned his back – a very foolish thing to do. With a sudden instant of rage, the young man sprang after the Romulan, slipping a thin bit of rope around his neck. It was quick work, and the Romulan fell limp on the ground. Tarkin smiled to himself, slowly putting the bit of rope back into his pocket.
“I will be great,” he said under his breath. “And I will not be stopped by someone like you.”
Spock awoke in the sickbay.
------------
Joanna sat quietly in her quarters. She wondered how she had been so stupid. She shivered. He had seemed so kind – but now… She rubbed her face with her hands. Why had he done this? Why was she kidnapped? What did he want? She pulled her small locket from under her uniform and opened it. She saw her father there, and her mother – the only picture she had of them both together. He had mentioned he knew her father. She wondered if he had actually told the truth, or if it was another lie. He had seemed rather interested in her father – she wondered why. She rested her chin in her hands and glanced around the room. There was no possible way to get out, she could see that. She had been kidnapped – and it was likely she wasn’t getting back home any time soon.
-----------
Spock leaned his head on his hands – it pounded now, the picture of a young woman, a nurse, over and over in his head. It had been exactly one day since he had had another vision, but he could still see the young woman. He could not get her, and her plea for help, out of his mind.
Dr. McCoy came into the sickbay and smiled down at his patient. “How are you feeling, Spock?” he asked.
“I feel – fine.”
There was a moment of silence as Bones checked Spock’s pulse and his blood pressure.
“Doctor?” asked Spock, breaking the silence. “May I mind meld with you?”
Bones looked in surprise and a little disgust at Spock. “What the heck for?”
“There is something I need to know, and I do not believe you can answer me by yourself.”
Bones raised his eyebrows. “Well why don’t you try asking?”
Spock paid no attention and reached out his hands to the doctor. Bones struggled, but Spock acquired the mind meld and he saw quickly what he was looking for. He released Bones.
“You bloody green-blooded Vulcan! What did you do that for?”
“Because, Doctor, I needed to know what your daughter looked like.
She has somehow communicated with me. She is in danger, and she is asking for your help. Tarmer has kidnapped her.”

StarTrekFTW's segment:
McCoy starred at Spock with bafflement. The room was silent, not even the machines made a noise.
"What are you talking about you talking about?!" His tone was serious. "Is this some kind of Vulcan joke that-"
"No." Spock interrupted with equal intensity. "I am serious, doctor. I saw her in a vision and she needs your help."
McCoy was still bemused. "How is that possible?"
Spock shook his head slowly. "I am not sure. All I know, is what I've seen."
McCoy looked serious. He finally said, "I can't take this lightly. It's my little girl we're talking about here." He helped Spock out of the bio-bed. "Come on, we have to tell Jim!"
They hurried to the turbolift and waited a few suspenseful moments until the door opened to the bridge.
Kirk, somewhat startled at their sudden appearance, smiled. "Spock! You're okay."
Spock bobbed his head. "Yes Captain."
McCoy spoke right up. "Jim we have to a man named Tarmer!"
Kirk looked a McCoy in a weird way. "What?"
"It's my daughter! She's been kidnapped by him!
"Hold on, Hold on!" Kirk snapped, impatiently. "Explain to me *exactly* what's going on here."
McCoy nodded taking a deep breath. He explained the whole thing and let Spock explain some parts as well.
Kirk nodded when they were done. "I see." He swiveled the chair over to Sulu's station. "We have to make sure this absolutely true and not a coincidence. Sulu, we need to go to Earth and make sure Johanna McCoy is really missing." Sulu nodded and pounced in the directions and engaged.
It only took a few hours to reach Earth because they weren't to far away to begin with. McCoy couldn't concentrate on a single thing. He spent most of those hours pacing the bridge.

"Sorry captain, I haven't seen Johanna for a while now." Kirk was in the middle of talking to a fellow nurse
Kirk smiled politely at the young nurse. "Thank you nurse."
The nurse uncomfortably nodded. "Is she okay? We've been pretty worried lately."
"I assure you everything will be alright." Kirk said to the nurse with a polite smile. Everyone in the bridge could tell that message was more for McCoy then the nurse.
The comm. was disconnected and Kirk towards McCoy. "Let's go find your daughter."

My segment:
Suddenly Spock gets another vision of Joanna. He tries to use his own Vulcan telepathic abilities to find out a location. He senses a warring planet called Aldevin in the Cintarilan system. Kirk orders warp 7 heading to Aldevin.
On Aldevin Tarmer has a slight sense that the Enterprise is on it's way. He doesn't understand these visions just as Spock doesn't. But it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is victory. Or is it revenge?
Tarmer isn't even sure of any of this. He feels a connection to someone in another galaxy or universe (Tarkin) but again, that can all wait. The defeat of the Enterprise crew is imperative. He has taken over this planet quite easily. The natives were more then willing to accept him. Was this just chance or does he possess a certain power?
He gets word that Joanna has escaped. Evidently she hid a hypo in her boot & when a guard gave her food, the guard also got a nap. Now armed, Joanna makes sure she's very careful not to get captured again.
Time passes & the Enterprise enters Aldevin's orbit. Quite peacefully so far. On the surface Tarmer monitors them & is more then willing to welcome them into his web. Kirk takes advantage of this & forms his landing party to beam down. Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, & 2 guards beam down to a deserted area. Bones asks Spock if he has any new visions of Joanna's whereabouts. But he doesn't. Is this because of the closer proximity? Do the visions only work from far away? Can these visions be blocked?
Kirk then gets a signal from Scotty saying that the ship is under attack. Kirk gives the order to fight back & take every precaution to save the ship. Just then phaser blasts start barraging the landing party. They find cover & fire back. They separate to make themselves a less easier target. Suddenly Joanna comes running down a corridor with guards on her tail. One guard fires & hits her in the arm. She falls to the ground & fires back. Bones & Uhura rush over to her. It was a good distraction. Kirk & Spock quickly fire their phasers at the ceiling above the guards. The ceiling's debris falls on some guards & creates a barrier between them & the Enterprise crew. Safe for the moment. Kirks calls Scotty to see what's going on. Scotty says the enemy ship has let up. They beam aboard quickly.
Tarmer in his chamber says "yes my "friends", beam aboard your ship. So that I can DESTROY it!!!"
Now aboard the Enterprise, with Joanna rescued & being tended to. Mr. Sulu tells kirk that battecruisers are closing in. Kirk says, "shields up & take evasive action." They blast each other a bit & then more enemy ships approach chasing the Enterprise. Suddenly There's 4 ships headed in front of the Enterprise. 4 more racing toward her on both sides.
On the planet surface Tarmer smiles.
The ships keep racing closer to Enterprise while shooting their phasers. But Kirk is just frozen at his chair.
What can be happening?
The ships close in.
Bones, now on the bridge with Joanna, says " Jim they're getting closer!"
Kirk just gives Bones a glance. Spock observes, raising his eyebrow & also wondering why the visions has stopped.
The enemy ships race closer, closer, & closer.
Tarmer's smile grows.
Suddenly Kirk orders, Mr. Sulu. Full reverse, warp 9.
The command is obeyed a split second after it's given. The Enterprise buckles backwards out of the way of the oncoming enemy ships, which takes them by complete surprise. The ships then crash into each other creating a flaming explosion that would put a sun to shame.
Tarmer's smile fades very quickly.
The Enterpise then heads for home to get Joanna to safety & report this to Starfleet.
Will this be the last of Tarmer?
What of Spock's visions?
These are questions for another story.
